If you could share with us any photos or documents from that period we would gratefully add for our museum one extra page to the history of Mysovaya."The author and his Buryat-Mongolia born wife Iya, whose mother Rachel was the ninth child in Guterman's family, travelled from Canada to Lake Baikal. They decided to find out why her grandfather - Shlomo Haim Guterman, fleeing the pogroms in Poland in 1896, - landed at the Mysovaya station in distant Siberia?The outcome of that visit resulted in the discovery not only of the history of a once large Jewish community (1,600 people in 1907), which has ceased its existence there today, but also in a dramatic ending: after the Canadian guests departed, one of the last Jews of the village, the great-grandson of Guterman, died in the local village hospital.
